I’m trying to craft a general prompt that makes a subject behave like a chameleon, blending into its surroundings. So far, it’s hit or miss. Since credits aren’t cheap, you often only get one shot per prompt. Sometimes the prompt doesn’t fully land. For example, I used the same prompt to generate two videos — one nailed it, the other did almost nothing.
I start with this cat, so it’s Image to Video.

As you can see here, Cat 1 just sits idle, while Cat 2 does exactly what I was going for.
Prompt:Cat stands still as the background pattern grows over its full body. Its skin shifts and blends until it looks like the environment is claiming it, making it almost vanish into the scene.

This on didn’t work…
But this one did. Same prompt.
The Magic Word = GROW
I burned through a ton of credits just trying to find the magic word that would make the effect actually show up on the cat. I tried everything — appear, morphs, change, change to match, shifts until it blends, adapts to match, blending in like camouflage, a visual effect, spread — but oddly enough, the one that finally worked was grow.
Here a few things I made so far with this technique:
It’s still not perfect — so far, it only seems to respond to organic or animal-like patterns. When I try it with something like a wallpaper pattern, the prompt doesn’t work at all.
FOLLOW UP
I kept experimenting to see if I could pull off the effect using something other than an animal print on a human. But like I mentioned before — it just doesn’t cooperate unless it’s an animal pattern. Still, I ran so many tests (and burned through a lot of credits) that it felt like a waste not to use any of it. So here it is: a collection of my chameleon fails.
